Sayanti Kanungo
I am Sayanti Kanungo, a Geosciences graduate student at Midwestern State University. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET) in Bangladesh. I was born and raised in Chittagong, widely known as the Port City of Bangladesh.
My academic background and professional experiences have shaped me into a civil engineer with a strong focus on water and environmental engineering. My research interests include water quality modeling, hydrology, environmental modeling, and climate change. I have hands-on experience with SWAT modeling, ArcGIS, remote sensing, and programming languages such as Python. During my undergraduate thesis, I conducted research on surface and groundwater interaction and performed detailed water quality assessments for the Chattogram region.
Following graduation, I worked as a Research Assistant at the National Oceanographic and Maritime Institute, where I collaborated with NASA professionals on multiple projects involving geospatial data and environmental analysis. I also completed an internship at the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) in Chattogram, which strengthened my understanding of urban water management systems. Currently, I am working with Dr. Kashif Mahmud in the Remote Sensing and Modeling Lab, where I intend to work on hydrology and remote sensing projects and complete my graduate thesis.
In my free time, I enjoy gardening and spending quiet moments in nature, and activities that help me feel refreshed and grounded. Watching flowers bloom brings me joy, and I also love reading and doing art and crafts. Feel free to reach out to me via email if you have any questions.
