Andy Sarpong

Hi, I’m Andy Sarpong from Ghana, West Africa.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). During my undergraduate studies, I gained industry experience through internships with Perseus Edikan Gold Mine and Asante Chirano Gold Mine. After graduation, I continued my journey in the mining industry as a Mine Geologist, gaining hands-on experience in grade control from sampling to ore reconciliation, QAQCs and assaying, exploration, and mine operations.

Beyond academics and work, I am passionate about sustainability and responsible mining. Having witnessed the environmental and social impacts of irresponsible mining, particularly illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana, I founded the Andy7even Initiative to advocate for responsible mining and environmental sustainability.

I’m also a lover of good food, cooking, and having fun. And if you need an Afrobeats playlist, I’m your guy!

Currently, I am pursuing my Master’s degree in Geoscience under the mentorship of Dr. Kashif Mahmud. My research focuses on integrating drone-based LiDAR and photogrammetry to reconstruct geological history and evaluate faulting behavior.

I am privileged to serve as a Teaching Assistant for Physical Geology, where I have the opportunity to share my passion for geology with the next generation of geoscientists and non-science students.
