Chelsea Kafesu
My name is Chelsea Kafesu, and I am a Bachelor of Science student majoring in Geosciences at Midwestern State University. I was born in Harare, Zimbabwe, and moved to the United States in January 2025. As an international student, I have enjoyed expanding my knowledge through new academic and research experiences. I am currently working as an undergraduate research assistant in Professor Kashif Mahmud's research group, where I contribute to a project investigating how rainfall moves through underground cave systems. Using rainfall and cave drip data, our research aims to better understand groundwater flow, water storage, and recharge processes in karst environments, helping improve our understanding of these important natural systems. Through this project, I have developed an interest in using data analysis and scientific research to better understand Earth's processes and solve real-world environmental challenges.
Outside of academics, I enjoy traveling, trying new foods, and seeking out new experiences that help me grow both personally and professionally. I also enjoy stepping outside my comfort zone and embracing opportunities that allow me to learn, meet new people, and broaden my perspective. I look forward to continuing my education and building a career in the geosciences through research and other hands-on experiences.
