Remote Sensing and Modeling (RSM) Lab

My name is Porama Das Ana, and I am a graduate student in Geoscience at Midwestern State University. Under the supervision of Dr. Kashif Mahmud, my current research focuses on understanding how cave drip systems respond to rainfall events and what these responses can reveal about groundwater recharge and water movement. Through this work, I will be exploring the connections between hydrogeology, karst systems, and subsurface fluid flow systems.

I completed my B.Sc. in Petroleum and Mining Engineering at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Bangladesh. My academic background provided me with the opportunity to study the fundamental principles of both the petroleum and mining sectors. As an undergraduate student, I participated in several field works, primarily gas fields and coal fields, to gain a better understanding of geological and subsurface systems. These experiences allowed me to connect theoretical knowledge with earth and reservoir systems.

My research background focuses on subsurface characterization using machine learning techniques. For my undergraduate thesis, I conducted research on estimating Total Organic Carbon (TOC) from conventional well-log data using machine learning models. Through this research, I developed an interest in applying data-driven approaches to better understand and characterize subsurface systems efficiently. 

With my background in Petroleum and Mining Engineering, I am now looking forward to expanding and applying my skills in the fields of remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). I believe that integrating my knowledge of reservoir systems with geospatial technologies will allow me to develop a broader perspective on geological and environmental processes and contribute to interdisciplinary research.

Outside of my academic work, I enjoy watching TV series and anime to explore different stories and characters. I also enjoy taking care of plants and hope to have a garden of my own someday.
