Rowann Remie

My name is Rowann Remie and I'm an international student from the Caribbean island of Dominica. In December 2022, I graduated with a BSc in Geoscience (Environmental Science Track with a geology concentration) from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Currently, I am pursuing graduate studies and will conduct research with Dr. Kashif Mahmud. The focus of my research will be to analyze groundwater infiltration and the preferential movement of water through the limestone at Natural Bridge Caverns, with the aim to extrapolate the water infiltration on a larger scale. I will use Stalagmate drip loggers to estimate the water infiltration and finally correlate the drip time series with morphological and spatial analysis of cave ceiling stalactites using LiDAR remote sensing data.

I am interested in hydrogeology, with the intent of pursuing a career in Water Resource Management. I have spent two years monitoring groundwater wells on MSU campus and the details of this investigation is available here.

Prior to my studies, I worked in the Public Service as a Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) Technician using software such as AutoCAD, Foresight, ArcGIS and Carlson Survey Suite. I was also introduced to various geospatial technologies for land surveying and cartography, which influenced my journey to becoming a trained geologist.

In my free time I volunteer extensively with the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award for Young People where I serve as a mentor and assessor. Coming from a mountainous tropical island, I enjoy hiking / backpacking and camping. I also love to spend time visiting the many rivers, waterfalls and beaches. For questions about my projects, feel free to email me
